The stream closures are to allow the sport fish to spawn, keeping the population growing so that the lake doesn’t get fished out. Most of the lakes in the high Sierras are open year round, Lake Tahoe included, except for a rule against fishing within 300 feet from the mouth of a stream.

You can enjoy Lake Tahoe fishing by trolling in this lake or Donner Lake for salmon or fly fishing in the Truckee River for Trout, which are both unmatched fishing options in the western United States.
