Ever thought of heading north? Ever walked on a glacier, or taken snapshots of a grizzly bear? The Canadian Rockies are truly unique. You can see some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in North America. With its pristine beauty and amazing views, the Canadian Rockies are not to be missed.

Warning: Yeah, it’s cold. I mean, really cold. Of course, the best time to go is in the summer time, but you still need to take coats, gloves, and big warm sleeping bags.

Banff - Skiers’ Paradise

Banff is probably the most popular spot in the Canadian Rockies, and this is because of the variety. There’s not only camping and hiking, but great fishing and skiing. It’s a destination for lots of motor home travelers.

But, let me give you a better description. Imagine camping by a rushing river lined with pine trees. In the background is a giant mountain. Add to that the cleanest air you’ve ever breathed and a quiet stillness you never experience back home, and you’ve pretty much got Banff.

Unlike some places in the Canadian Rockies, Banff is fairly easy to get to, and pretty convenient. You can stock up on supplies, shop or eat out in town, and you’re not far from the pristine camping areas.

Lake Louise - Home Of The Grizzly

Lake Louise is just spitting distance from Banff, located actually in Banff National Park. This is another area full of wonderful views and pristine nature. Lake Louise boasts great skiing, and it’s the “hiking capital” of Canada, but the lake itself is the biggest draw. Because of the silt in the water, the lake changes colors slightly throughout the year and time of day.

Lake Louise has glaciers and waterfalls, and it’s far away enough from everything that you might run into some critters. I’m not talking about tiny critters like rabbits or squirrels, I’m talking about elk, deer… and grizzlies! Just keep in mind, they’re as afraid of people as we are of them. Just don’t get too close to try to take a picture or anything.

The area around Lake Louise is spectacular, because it is truly one of the last frontiers. When you head north from Louise, you are really going into no-man’s land. There’s not much up there until you get to Alaska!

North To Jasper

Well, there is something between Lake Louise and Alaska, and it’s Jasper National Park. Like Lake Louise, Jasper has stunning views, abundant wildlife, glaciers, and not many people or conveniences.

If you want to really do the Canadian Rockies, I suggest taking driving your RV from Lake Louise to Jasper. But, I recommend going slow. This is because there is scenery on that drive that you will never see again.

Just off the road you’ll see mountain vistas you’ve never dreamed could exist. Most people stop off at the Columbia Icefield, located about halfway to Jasper. This is a gigantic glacier, a leftover from the last ice age. It’s melting slowly but surely, but there’s still a lot of it to go.

Jasper is even more remote than Lake Louise, so if you want to head there I suggest stocking up before you leave; fill that motor home with supplies! Jasper is truly an adventure, and most people who go up there get a peek of a grizzly, wolf or mountain goat.

As long as you’re in the Canadian Rockies, you might as well check out Kootenay and Yoho, two other great National Parks. There’s also a variety of lodging options for those who don’t want to rough it.

Choosing a good hotel to stay at depends largely upon your plans as well as who is included in your travel party. If you are a family that is on vacation, for example, the type of hotel you will require will be different from if you are a businessperson traveling for work. Similarly, if you plan to visit local attractions during your stay rather then spend your entire vacation at the hotel will have an impact on the type of hotel you select.

If you are a family traveling on vacation you will want to select a hotel that has spacious rooms that provide you and your family members with plenty of room to move around. Finding a hotel with a swimming pool is also a plus as a pool will provide the children with an excellent place to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing. If it has a hot tub or a Jacuzzi, this can be a great place of tired parents to recoup as the kids blow off some more energy.

If your vacation destination is filled with sights and attractions that will take up the majority of your day, there is no reason to spend the extra money required to stay at a resort hotel. A resort hotel will offer a number of amenities, including activities, restaurants, and stores on sight. For many families, staying at one of these hotels is not worth the cost if little time will be spent at the hotel. Rather, the best choice is a hotel that is near to the attractions the family plans on visiting.

For a businessperson, the best hotel choice is generally one that is near to an airport. Similarly, if the businessperson will be attending a convention, it is convenient to stay in the same hotel where the convention will be taking place or at one that is nearby. This way, the businessperson will have no problem with making it to meetings and other work-related get togethers in a timely fashion.

The United Kingdom is a country consists of Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England. There are also tiny islands that enclose the country. Aside from the land border, UK is also surrounded with different bodies of water, including the North Sea, Atlantic Ocean, English Channel, and the Irish Sea. Sailing in the United Kingdom, therefore, is never a problem.

So where do you exactly start? The most popular cruising areas are the Solent and Isle of Wight, the South West counties of Devon and Cornwall, East Anglia and the West coast of Scotland. Getting away from it all sometimes means traveling alone in order to enjoy peace and quiet. If you have a busy lifestyle and you want to not have to speak to anyone for a few days or a week, taking a cruise by yourself is one way to do this. While you may meet people once aboard, you have the option to sit in your cabin, on the deck, dine alone or with the group, or you can find fun activities to participate in at nighttime. Thos e who travel alone on a cruise usually find ways to balance their social interaction and their need for some quiet, private time.

When travelling alone, it is important to keep an open mind about meeting new people. If you can afford to pay for a private cabin, you will be able to find peace during the day. There are many activities to do aboard a cruise ship. Many cruises stop in port cities where you will be able to leave the ship and visit shops, restaurants, and other tourist attractions. While you will be around people, you do not necessarily have to travel with them, which can give you more freedom to choose where you want to go and how long you want to spend there.

If you don’t want to travel alone, but you want to have quiet time during the cruise, ask a friend or family member who may want the same to join you. Cabins are less expensive when they are shared, so you will be able to save money and still enjoy private time. Japan offers a wide range of accommodation options, but nothing is as quirky as a capsule hotel. The first capsule hotel opened in Osaka in 1979 and they can now be found in major cities across Japan. The capsule hotel idea has not taken off anywhere else though which makes for a unique Japanese accommodation experience.

Upon arrival you take your shoes off, as you would in a Japanese home, and place them into a shoe locker at the front entrance. Hand the locker key to reception and once you are done with check in formalities you are given another locker key attached to a wristband. The number on your wristband is your locker number and capsule number.

The hotel’s make the most of a small space, so The lockers aren’t built for long haul travel. The locker’s might only have enough room for a suit and an overnight bag. Capsule hotels are mainly frequented by business people staying in town overnight and people who have missed the last train home, so accommodating for bulging backpacks and unwieldy wheelie bags is not usually required. If you have larger bags you can leave them in a secured luggage room.

When you are ready for bed you go to the locker room and change into your usual nightwear. If you go to bed ala naturale, you are supplied with a yukata (Japanese bathing robe). You are also supplied with a Japanese stlye bath towel, which is about the size of a tea towel.

Now it is off to capsule. The capsules are located on multiple levels, separated into male and female floors. Climb in and draw the bamboo blind at the entrance hole and you are in your little Japanese bolthole for the night.

The capsules are the width of a single bed and are high enough for you to sit up in. A TV is built in to the roof and everything is designed as to not get in your way should you awaken suddenly in the night. A control panel with clock radio, alarm, TV controls and light switch is built into the side with a small ledge for personal items.

There are toilets on each level and the bathroom can be found next to the locker room. The bathroom is in the style of Japanese bath houses. There are showers and a large public hot bath. You are required to shower first before using the hot bath (of course).

There is usually a floor which is a common area with vending machines, newspapers and internet facilities.

Capsule hotels encapsulates (pun intended) the hi-tech, limited space image of Japan. So if you are looking to do something a bit different, then a stay in a capsule hotel could be for you.

Camping for the first time can turn into a wonderful experience, or it can become a nightmare. It mainly depends on the equipment you use. Purchasing and using cheap camping gear has its benefits as well as some downfalls.

If it is your first time camping, you may not want to purchase equipment, as it may add up in the end. So by asking either your friends or relatives if you can use their camping equipment, it may be the cheaper option. However, if they have nice camping equipment they may be hesitant to allow you to use it, or they may not let you borrow it at all. You also may not want to borrow it if you know they have expensive equipment, because you don’t want to run the risk of damaging their tent or burning their stove. So purchasing cheap camping gear to begin with may become the better option.

Most first time campers purchase cheap camping gear at big department stores like K-Mart or Wal-Mart where you can purchase all the basic equipment and stay within your budget. Once you have experienced the outdoors and have decided that you enjoy camping, you can them start to invest in more expensive items that are more durable. Cheap camping gear has the benefit of being cheap, but not much else. Typically cheap camping gear usually falls apart quicker and is less dependable. It is not worth going out and buying cheap camping equipment time and again, because all though it may seem like the cheaper option at the time, it will add up after replacing it more than once. It is often best that you invest in the more expensive, durable equipment that you know will last longer and will cost you less in the long run.

If you are using cheap camping gear on your first camping trip, don’t let any faulty equipment keep you from enjoying your camping experience. Keep in mind that there is better equipment available that makes camping more enjoyable. Purchasing the right camping gear, such as a tent, sleeping bag, stove, or cookware, will make such a difference.

Finding a tent that is waterproof, lightweight and easy to assemble is very important. No one wants to assemble a tent that will take all day to put up, and definitely no one wants to sleep in a leaky tent. So be sure any tent you purchase is waterproof and easy to assemble. Your sleeping bag is also extremely important. You will want a sleeping bag that will keep you warm and be comfortable as well as easy to pack away. A good stove is important, especially in campsites where open fires are not allowed. So be sure to purchase a stove you know will last through many camping trips. You cookware is also important. Buying the cheapest cookware may seem like a good idea, but not when you find that it melts or find little flakes of metal in your food. So it is always worth investing in the basic camping gear.
